Gentlemen: I read the article in the January 2005 QST about the Johnson
Ranger and it is enjoyable. However, I noted two discrepancies: 1. The
article states or implies that the Ranger II ONLY has timed sequence keying
and the "Ranger" model did not. However, I have a "Ranger" transmitter that
has the timed sequence keying. Also, the author gives the output power of his
unit which is very good because it has new old stock tubes and is a good
reference for power output. However, he failed to state what frequency or
band the transmitter output power was measured? Also, my 1958 ARRL Handbook,
at the rear on page 20 has the Johnson catalogue and the "Ranger" is
specified with timed sequence keying. Any comments from anyone will be
appreciated. - Best regard- Sherrill W. k4own.
