Hi,

I have seen the black tops and in some cases complete V II cabinets finished
in black wrinkle but I don't believe this was ever a standard factory finish.
The problem seems to be that the maroon color is not available in wrinkle
finish as was the original, so many folks have resorted to black wrinkle which is
readily available. Howard Mills, W3HM, a noted restorer, does his cabinets in
black. The resident expert in Viking cabinet refinishing is probably Dee,
W4PNT, w4pnt at w4pnt.8K.com
He should be able to tell you the real truth on these finishes.

I feel that since the cabinets and tops are usually surrounded by other gear,
you don't see much of them so unless you are a hard nosed collector who wants
everything OEM, it is not that big a deal. Of course, there is nothing wrong
with being a hard nosed collector, yours truly has been getting his nose
slammed in doors for many years now!

73,

John, W4AWM
