[Johnson] Ranger Questions

Hi Everyone,

I recently acquired a Ranger I that I am planning on restoring and putting
on the air. By coincidence, a friend of mine in the area also acquired a
Ranger I and I am helping him with his rig as well. In comparing the two, I
have noticed that mine has a 200 ohm resistor between the .51 ohm meter
shunt and the cathodes of the modulator tubes. The other Ranger does not.
The schematics I have also do not show the 200 ohm resistor. I have also
noticed that several of the Rangers for auction on Ebay have this resistor
as well so I am assuming that this is not a hacked mod. I would like to find
out any info/hisotry on this difference and which configuration is
preferred.

Also, my friend's Ranger has what appears to be the push-to-talk relay
installed beside the HV and LV rectifier tubes. Can anyone tell me if this
is this the factory installed PTT or one installed after the rig left the
factory.

Thanks for any info provided. We are looking forward to getting both of them
on the air.

73,

John K5QX
