[Johnson] 6146 question (in Rangers)

Hi,
A quick question.  I remember reading sometime back that all the different
genres of 6146 tubes are not interchangeable, particularly in older sets
like the Ranger.  (No need to go into all the details of why).

IF I remember correctly, for the Ranger I would want a "Plain Jane" 6146 OR
6146A, NOT the later "B" or military ones.  Is my memory correct?

Reason I ask is, if, in my ramblings I run across a "spare" for my Ranger
I'll probably pick it up.  (I'm not presently in the market for one).
