My previous reply was before breakfast, hence the useless subject and terse
reply.

When I first got my Ranger working several years ago, I was leery of the
1614's since I guess they were forty years old like the rest of the rig and
it just didn't sound right, so I asked for advice about 1614's on the
Boatanchors reflector. The consensus of the replies was, "Quit your
worrying kid. A 1614 is just another 6L6, so put some kind of 6L6 in there
and be happy. GB, GC, 5881, it doesn't matter." I put some Sylvania
6L6WGB's I bought at a hamfest as 5881's in there and have been perfectly
satisfied. If one or more of them ever goes out, I'm tempted to try some
Sovtek 5881 pulls from my son's Marshall - they should be well mellowed by
now. Otherwise, I've got some new Sovtek's from AES which were only $11.00
each last year.
