[Johnson] Ranger keyer problem

I'll repost to the group. That black beauty under the t/s keying board has been the source of many headaches. I remember having that problem for the longest time before I wised up. Exposing that particular cap to the burning heat of the 6X4's and 5U4's will cause failure rate even faster. Glad to have helped. Cal. N6KYR. BTDT with several Rangers before.

You hit the nail on the head.  As soon as I lifted the sub-chassis I spotted a black beauty that I had somehow missed during the overhaul process 3 years ago (I got the 'lytic).  Replaced the cap and screwed the chassis back in place and it works like it's supposed to.

Make sure that you have B+ going to those tubes on the t/s keyer "board". Also, make sure that pot is not burnt out/open. Finally, is that black beauty cap on that t/s keyer board replaced? If not, you are wrong! Let me know what you come up with. Cal.
