[Johnson] Carrier "warble" on Ranger Xmitter.

Hi.
I got the parasitic problem licked. In doing a "final checkout" before
assembling the unit and putting it back in the operating position I found
another problem that makes it sound kind of ugly.
After tuning and loading it up properly on 10 Meters I decided to check it's
CW note (I had been monitoring with the receiver in AM mode). Imagine my
horror when what I heard on a steady "keydown" condition sounds very much
like an RTTY signal! That is, there is a continuos "warble" to the sound.
This is true in both Phone and CW mode when the key is held down. In the
"Tune" mode the note sounds "pure" though there is a little drift back and
forth which may be due to either the HQ-110 drifting or the Ranger (or
both).
But go back to the phone or CW transmit position and it's there again.
This IS NOT the CW "Chirp" that you often hear on a poor CW Signal, just a
"warble". I tried tweaking the Keyer pot but it had no effect on the
warble.
Question. Is this normal or rather unusual operation for a Ranger
(original) Transmitter?
