[Johnson] Valiant meter shunt redux

Just wanted to let the list know that I replaced my Valiant meter shunts
for PA and modulator current with the appropriate lengths of approx. 22
ga. nichrome wire wound around 22Mohm 1W resistors (used as forms).
Length determined by measuring the resistance of 10 ft. of the wire &
doing the math to get .202 or .404 ohms, as required.. Using the
resistors as forms for the shunts makes a neat, compact job. The
nichrome wire needs to be silver soldered with acid flux, necissitating
a soap-and-water scrub of the shunts after construction (but before
installation). They work terrific!

I'm still puzzled over why the stock shunts were screwed up. Maybe they
weren't soldered with acid flux. DOn't know. But I'm glad they're
history.

btw: still trying to locate the plate current and modulator current
shunts in the Ranger. Clues, please?
