It seems I have most of the problems solved with My Viking II. It had a handful of bad cap's which for the most part smoked to advertise their failure. It turns out the run-away problem was apparently caused by electrolytic Cap C1 at V1 (6AU6). I replaced both with new 10mfd 25VW as specified. They had been replaced sometime in the past C1 had been installed backwards. I spotted this and installed the new Cap' correctly.
With this change the run away problem stopped. The remaining issue is
low modulation levels, this maybe a Mic' thing. The Transmitter likes
the Kenwooe MC-50 because it is set to Hi impedence. I do need to replace the 6146's one is good the other is just a little gassy I am getting good
output so I will address this in the future. One thing I did learn was the
Japanese 6146 (Hitachi) just does not work with the style of socket used in the Viking II. The pin of the Japanese 6146 is narrower and just a touch shorter. It just doesn't fit right. I am not happy with the fusing on this
rig. I want to fuse each of the power supplies can anyone suggest what values to fuse each of these supplies.
