Boy you can say that again. if you have ever tried to upgrade a house wired 
in the  30's with the ladder wiring. it is a nightmare. you never know 
which is hot and which is not and like guy said just when you thought you 
had it figured out it would change and light up your life.
i just spent the winter rewiring my rent house and it was a night mare. all 
light and outlets were on the same circuit.
I always leave the old fused plugs on my johnson's and i always run 
everything thru iso trannys.
