I highly suspect that the Ranger 2 you are looking at is either a prototype or a modification. I think it is the latter. The only "open top" old EFJ equipment I've seen to date is the Invader. I don't think EFJ wanted anyone to mess around with exposed HV. You will note that all HV tubes with exposed caps in the Invader are caged. All others are not caged, hence, they are in the enclosed case. FWIW. Cal, N6KYR
