That is so true. Which is why I am pleased this Viking 1 does have the
factory kit because it is a factory add on. I really like the styling of
the Viking I it is a modified art deco form.
I do have a little piece of info' for those of you working on this rig. I
noticed the pulleys on the Viking 1 are constructed in a slightly different
way from the ones on the Viking II. The pulleys on my Viking I has the
portion with the set screws swaged to the pulley wheel only. In my unit
both of the pulleys on the 160 meter switch where broken at the swage.
Apparently this was an acknowledged problem because the pulleys on the
Viking II in addition to being swaged are also brazed. I'll be able to
repair the failed pulleys with sliver solder. It is fortunate I have a CB'er
demolished Viking II for parts.
