Gents:

Continued to work on the Ranger 2. Fixed some long standing problems, will attack others later on.

-The first was replacing the non-stock mic jack with the correct Amphenol 83 series 2 prong unit. A few years ago I picked a couple of new ones from a swap meet and somehow completely forgot about 'em until I was packing up and closing out my old home. Talk about coincidence! In any event, that part is back in. I also soldered on another lead to the #2 part of the mic connector for future PTT mods.

-Second, the SO-239 is now replaced. The old one had it's insulation brittling out so it was another easy fix. Since I was on a "time hack" (time crunch to you civ types), I quit work and assessed future work.

Seems like the PTT mod may be on the slighly confusing side. On SW4 contact 8, there is supposed to be two black wires emanating from that contact. I only see one. I'll also have to check the other connectors on the switch. We'll see what is up with that. The PTT relay has that extra third set of contacts. I'll use that to key the green pilot lamp for ON AIR ops.

I still have to install the 100 uF cap for the l.v. power supply section. Practice had it that in it's current config, I had some hum/reg problems. My previous mod to a Ranger 1 on this particular part solved the problem.

Finally, there is the case of the "black beauty" (C85) which is a .047 uF unit. That is a bypass cap in the keying unit. I have some plastic .033 uf units that will work so that will take it's place. I've seen actual faults with the keying circuit as a result of this cap staying into the Ranger. It looks like a big black plastic resistor with 47 k type markings.

So, that is it. Stay tuned.
