Hi all...I am trying to revive a Viking II and have run into, what else, a
mod. It APPEARS that the big wire wound resistor, R-13 was cooked or
something, as it has been removed. The feller then tied the center tap of T-1
(HV) to ground directly. He has also added a relay for PTT. The relay is not
the problem. I am not getting HV to the olates of the 6146 tubes. I can make
no sense of this modification. He has added a large fixed wire wound to take
the place of the missing R 13. The HV goes no further than where the wires
were cut at the junction of L1, C9, and R13. If i tie these back together,
the HV still does not work, and the tubes(6146) go red. All caps have been
checked/changed in the power supplies. The HV at C-9 also reads very high. It
should be around 600, but reads almost double that. Ant one know of a mod to
replace R-13 that the former owner may have been trying??? I don't understand
grounding the center tap either. (T-1). Any one have or know of a source for
a WW 20K pot with slider around that I can obtain to put this rig back to
original. Ideas please???? Thanks.....Al/W8FAX
