[Johnson] Now the tank circuit

Heard you loud and clear on which tube I should use for the final on my project. It will be the venerable 6146. I originally liked the 6550 for it's aestheric appeal (and wanting to keep the tank circuit below deck) but since I suspect I will have problems with neutralization, I decided to go back to the 6146.

Now on the design of the tank circuit. I will salvage the Air Dux unit from the Marine xmtr. How should one set the taps on the tank circuit? I will probably use the 160, 80-75, 40, and 30 meter bands for this rig. I'll figure out the higher bands later on but for now, that's what I'd like to run the xmtr at. Modes, of course, will be AM and CW. 60 watts will probably be the power input to the unit. Driver? Hmmm....either a 12BY7 or 5763 (although there should be a more generic tube available to drive the 6146...6AG7?). Plate tune cap is something that I bought off of Epay a few years ago. A 250-300 hv variable cap. Load cap will probably be something salvaged off a broadcast set or something similar (dual 365 pf unit). If I need extra capacitance, I guess I could parallel in other caps to the load circuit if it can't handle 1.8 Mcs.

O.k. That's about it for now. Let me know your thoughts and thanks. Cal, N6KYR.
