The transformer in the Valiant that supplies the HV rectifier filaments can
develop a short to ground on this winding.

I had this happen once and luckily the xformer continued to operate once I
went to SS replacements and removed the HV wiring to that winding.

I do this to all my gear because it a quick and easy method to prevent
future winding/transformer failures.
