Remember that under the present 1500 PEP watts output
maximum allowed power under CFR47 Part 97 regulations,
the maximum carrier power output that you can run with
100% modulation is 375 watts (PEP on AM equals times
four carrier power). Thus, anything that runs over
500 to 600 watts input will be illegal. This is a far
cry from the "old" days when you could run 1000 watts
DC plate input which would result in from 600 to 700
watts output or 2400 to 2800 watts PEP.
