[JMS] Grinding crystals? Is an acid etch possible?

Most of the acids mentioned so far don't do much on glass (and 
quartz). I think the most effective etch is probably HF acid. This is 
also a bad actor and should be used with extreme caution. Me thinks 
the most effective neutralizer for this stuff is calcium. This means 
that if you get any on you, it don't stop eating until it gets to 
bone. I believe I'd rather grind and take my chances.
