Don, so much for "OFFICIAL RECORDS".... My brother Ted's birth certificate
states that my Father was born in RUSSIA. My brother Leonard's (ex-W!LSC)
birth certificate says GERMANY. My birth certificate indicated "ENGLAND".
Ellis Island records show POLAND. When I was a boy, he used to telL me about
the 'old country'. Actually he was born in Koenigsburg, PRUSSIA. (Ost
Prussen) a country almost no one (these days) ever heard of. This was
confirmed by my Grandmother Sarah Bass (nee Wagenhein) from Munich, Germany.
Good luck on your search...73 Joe W4CBJ

>Hi Guys,
>
>I received an email the other day from a gentleman who has a page on the
>QCWA website for James Millen. His question was if I knew the exact dates
>of Millen's birth and death. Well after some document searching I've come
>up short. I know he died in 1987 as his QST Silent Key listing appears in
>the October 1987 issue. As of yet I have not found anything else in QST,
>but perhaps I missed it. If all James got was a simple Silent Keys listing
>that would have been a deep shame considering he personally had so much to
>do with the magazines publication in the 1930's.
>
>As for Millen's birth now I'm really stumped. Yes I know our website has
>1901 and we had the big 100th year operating celebration in 2001 to
>commemorate. A few years back fellow JMS'er Bill Fizette provide the
>society with copies of many of the later 1940's and early 1950's yearly
>operating statements on the Millen company. In these are Dun and
>Bradstreet reports on the company. Great - some official documents! Well
>when I go through those they provided birth years of 1894 (not likely),
>1904 or 1906. I guess they aren't that official, hi.
>
>Any further information from members would be appreciated. If someone has
>an email address or phone number
>for Merrill W. Bancroft please send it to me. I know Merrill has a great
>deal of the Millen estate personal documents for James.
>
>A side note: James did have a brother Robert Millen who was reported to be
>a surgeon in NYC (via Dun and Bradstreet Report). In all my reading on
>James Millen I had never seen him reference a brother. His mother did live
>at his QTH on Tarbox Lane though. It would be very interesting to
>investigate if there was any family tree to follow via his brother Robert.
>Internet searches on his brother have never produced any results for me.
>
>So put on those JMS investigators hats and see what you can come up with.
