Truly a day of Thanksgiving for the JMS. As of today the W1HRX QSL fund
drive is at $158.99. That is enough to place an order for 1000 QSL's.
With the recommendation of a few of our JMS members I have chosen "QSL
Works" to print the new JMS QSL cards.
QSL Works does super work out of Pierre, South Dakota. The sample I've
seen from members attest to their quality. A couple of emails back and
forth with Tami, their graphic artist, produced a proof page at
http://qslworks.com/W1HRX/ (remove the W1HRX/ part if you want to view
their full site). So you can review just what the finished cards will
look like. Take a look. If you find any mistakes notify me
immediately! Next week I will place the order for the quantity that I
can obtain based on the donation level at the time. As mentioned in
previous emails I will convert the remainder to a US Stamp fund and
supply to future event stations to use for any mailings associated with
such activity.
To date we have received ten donations or 1/6th the membership of the
organization. I'm not certain how good a statistic this is, but I thank
all who were able to donate. Donation will continue to be accepted
after the print order and will be converted to postage. Considering
that many of the emails we have listed on the Roster and in my reflector
management are no longer valid, my guess is that perhaps 1/5 to 1/4 of
our JMS members are not receiving these emails. That's understandable,
as anyone who has moved to a new email address can't possibly remember
all the different list and reflectors they may have signed up for or
signed up to.
This Station's Activities
-----------------------
Well thanks to fellow JMS member, Don Merz N3RHT, I was able to pick up
a nice univeral 300 watt class modulation transformer for use with my
Millen station. My plans are to follow the Millen 90831 modulator with
a P-P 811 driver for the P-P 812's in the 90881 amplifier. This should
have no problem providing full 100% modulation of that amplifier vs the
50% modulation offered by a direct low level modulation of the 90831
driving it alone.
Speaking of the 90881 amplifier. I know there are many of these amps
out there in JMS members hands. Has anyone got one on-the-air yet?
Appears today we have hit the point where there are now several low
power Millen stations operational. How long before we have several
"Power Houses" on the bands?
Did I mention that a couple of weeks back Gary WA4IAM and I had our
first Millen-to-Millen two way AM QSO on 40 meters. We were in a little
round table of stations. Copy on both sides was 100% throughout and
respectable S8 average strength. Not bad for these little 20-30 watt
output transmitters. Gary and I have had Millen-to-Millen contacts
before during some of the vintage equipment CW events, but this is a
first for us on the phone side.
Pictures - Pictures
-------------------
Well the number of membership pictures has grown under the Membership
area of the JMS website. Those who haven't supplied pictures please do so.
Equipment Serial Numbers
------------------------
If you haven't done so, please remember to provide Bob W0YVA with your
Millen equipment serial numbers for the website list.
Conclusion
----------
Have an enjoyable and filling Thanksgiving day. My best to you and yours.
