Bob,
Here is my list. I even put in the Solid-State Dipper as the Millen Dippers were
considered top of the line so I'd love to know just how high they went up to. I
bet Ralph Jannini could provide some decent numbers for the dippers as I think he
still has many NOS units, perhaps on the 92101 preamps too. Ralph do you know if
Millen maintained a strict serial number sequence?
Anyhoot here is my list:
90281 HV PS #168 ; Version without Hi/Lo Switch
90501 Secondary Freq. Standard #531 & #1161 ;later is actually a 90505 w/Het
Unit
90652 Solid State Dipper #415
90711 VFO #321
90801 Transmitter #59
90810 VHF Transmitter #7 & #235
90831 Modulator #199 ; Assembled from partial mfg'd unit - From JME*
90881 HF Amplifier #435
90903 Scope 3" Tube #362 & #496 ; Both have tube recifiers NOT solid-state
(later version)
92101 Preamp #63, #2032, #2073 & #5033
* JME - James Millen Electronics
Those darn preamps are all over the place. Paid a few bucks for a couple of them.
At those prices how could you pass them up. The knobs alone are worth that kind
of money, hi.
Another note on the dippers, Ed Tanton N4XY just bought S/N #1 of the 90651 grid
dipper off eBay. Along with S/N #6 of the 90751 Tone Modulator. I wondered if it
was truely the #1 unit and here is some of what Ed wrote.
"On ebay, but from a W1 ham (Jack Richardson, KV1E) living near here, I have
obtained Millen 90651 SN: 1 today; and am convinced it is genuine. This morning,
Jack and I met in between our respective QTHs. Images of the unit can be seen at
the sale page: 5788172077, including a close-up of the SN. My own examination just
now indicates it is real, and not altered in any way I can detect. Also, it came
with the 90751 Tone Modulator SN: 6 . Finally, Jack has had it for > 25 years,
having obtained it in a hamfest fleamarket in W1."
Twenty five years ago would have been around the time that the James Millen Mfg
Company was divided up into the three separate organizations and James leaving the
company. Perhaps this might have been a personal dipper of Jim's?
If you haven't visited Ed's Dipper website check it out at <

It's an interesting niche area of collecting.

Don N9OO
