[JMS] Membership Levels? (or Society Update Partial)

I agree with Jim Hanlon on this. Keep it simple...no Board, and do your
"business" via email. If this is an important issue with you, Don, why not
get a group together at the AWA conference next week to talk it out?

Subject: [JMS] Membership Levels? (or Society Update Partial)

Greeting JMS Members,

I was wondering if the JMS should establish some form of membership
levels?

Is this to elitists? My thoughts are that for people who have stepped
up beyond the call and have exemplified the advancement of group and/or
National-Millen in general.

Basically it could be modeled after the Radio Club of America and
consist of two levels above "member". Those being Senior and Fellow. I
will look up the requirements for both in some of my RCA documents and
reword and model them to be relative to the JMS. Actually our current
"sponsored" membership was already modeled after the RCA and early AWA.
I cherish my AWA membership letter that is signed by the late Bruce
Kelly as a sponsor! As always this change would be documented and put
out for an email vote to the membership via this reflector. It would be
added as a change to our current Document of Organization.

Simplistically the Senior member would be someone who has advanced the
society and our purpose as outlined in our Document of Organization. A
Fellow member would essentially be a Senior member who has done the same
type of work over a longer period of time. Thus Fellows would normally
require a longer timeframe of service to the group.

These type of nominations would come from the membership and require
detailed reasons for the nomination. Thus one or more nomination letters
would be required. As we are a small group a simple majority vote could
be used to vote on the nominations.

Just an idea. What say you all? Comments please. I feel it is a good
way to recognize those who have given a great deal of time to our
success. The JMS is recognized as a professional and knowledgeable
group of radio enthusiasts and perhaps this expansion of membership
levels will further advance such legitimacy.

P.S. Instead of new Membership Certificate being issued some nicely
printed silver and gold level stickers would be produced to add to the
existing certificate.

P.S.S. Read the Document of Organization on the JMS website and put
forth other ideas. Do we need a Board of Directors? Officer Elections
(get rid of those dictatorial, older than wood, Presidents, hi hi)?
More officers?

P.S.S.S. Let use the W1HRX call more on the air for events. Idea's?
It's been a few years now since we did the big W1HRX AWA Conference
event. That was great fun! Maybe the AWA crew can do the W1HRX thing
during one of the AWA contests. It was a real treat working Ed Gable on
the big Millen transmitter during the last AWA AM contest.

P.S.S.S.S Hey maybe I should have made this a "Society Update" since I
haven't done one of those in awhile. Still looking for ideas on a QSL
design for W1HRX operations that could be used by any member, or group
of members, for special events. Maybe modeled after Millen's old card
at http://www.isquare.com/millen/bio_rem/paradise.html
