All:
Started reassembly of the 90881 amplifier (SN #52). The grid coil socket and grid input tuning cap is installed (but not soldered in). Ditto with the plate tuning cap and the inline coil socket sans adjustable link and jack bar. I also cleaned up the grid and plate meters. After polishing and cleaning these two, there is a world of difference from when I first picked up the unit.

Ditto with the two large Millen tuning knobs. I basically removed all of the previous nicotine and accumulated crud using a "purple" degreaser. It does a devastating job on the surface crud. Of course, I ended up etching the knobs but there are no latex paint splatters or anything like that.

I followed up on the knobs by polishing them with Brasso and a soft cloth. Looks much better than before with just a bit of sheen. I suspect more polishing will produce an attractive gloss.

So far, the reassembled 90881 amp is looking like a 90881 amp supposed to be. Tomorrow, I'll follow up with the tube sockets and reinstall them.

Cal, N6kYR.
