[JMS] 90881 progress

Cal,

Judging from my Globe King 275 which uses a pair of V70D's in push-pull =
and is housed in a typical, late-40's cabinet that is a decent =
dust-cover but not a good shield, you will be able to operate the Millen =
90881 as high as 20 meters without creaming the neighborhood television =
receivers IF you are very careful about your neutralizing adjustments. =
I found that the TVI on channel 2, the fourth harmonic of 20 meters, =
could be tuned out by a careful trimming of the neut caps after I had =
done the normal style adjustment. I has to do with obtaining good =
balance in the push-pull amplifier which will cancel out all even-order =
harmonics if it is properly balanced.

Good luck,

Jim, W8KGI

  All:
Just wanted to update you on the 90881 amplifier. I received the =
powdercoated chassis two days ago. Looks extremely good! Bad thing was =
that the coaters coated over the stamped info tag that marks the barrier =
strip at the back. Guess I'm going to use some paint remover to strip =
that part out. Otherwise, it looks MUCH better than the old surface =
rusted original.

I started by putting back all the cleaned up identification and front =
panel tags. I did have to hammer the old rivets back in but that wasn't =
a problem. Also, I misplaced the pilot lamp assembly but no matter. The =
ones used on Fender amplifiers are identical. I just happened to order a =
bunch from Antique ES. I put a new one with a new red pilot jewel. Looks =
way better than the original! I haven't cleaned up the meters yet but =
that's just around the corner. After that, the front panel will look =
next to normal (sans big Millen knobs, which I just cleaned and =
polished).=20

Just to see how the amp would look next to the 90800, I took the =
recently tested transmitter and placed it on top of the 90881. Looks =
really good. Now I just have to finish up with the power supply and =
obtain a cabinet and put the rest of the amp back together.=20

Now I don't know how many other 90800-801/90881/90831 combos are out =
there in working condition but I would like to get in contact with =
anyone who is currently running these rigs as a single unit. Let me know =
and thanks. Cal, N6KYR.=20
