[JMS] JMS QSL's

Harry and Gary (sounds like a good beginning for a joke, hi)

Yes, I believe Ralph has the rights to the Millen trademarks. So he would have to
give his permission for the use of it on a QSL card. Although, bless his heart, he
hasn't sued the JMS for having the "M Gear" logo on our website. Actually it probably
good for the business, hi. By the way all, I think Ralph still has Millen Electronics
up for sale. So if you want to become the next Millen here's your chance.

Your right a RED card based on the old Millen Boxes sounds great. I like the T-Shirt
idea too. Perhaps a personal project for someone. I already take care of the
embroidered shirts so I will pass on this project. This type of shirt sounds like a
possible money maker if released to the general ham population instead of just JMS
members. Just like those Collins, ER, National (hey we could ware those) T-shirts.

The QSL printer I used for the W1HRX AWA/JMS event were done by WX9X out in Indiana.
He comes to most of the swapfest in the Chicago area and does some remarkable work. I
did my original art work for that last QSL using Corel Draw. Everything was done via
email and they worked it up and sent me proofs to review before anything went to
press. WX9X was also one of the lowest cost wise. I think it would cost us around
$150-$175 for 2000 cards. Based on it was $101 for 500 photo cards and I remember it
was only about $10 for each additional increment of 250 pieces after that. Today
there s alot of QSL printing from overseas, even Russia. Do a search on the web
sometime for QSL printers and you will see. The overseas guys look like they do
fantastics jobs, but when you get done with postage and any delivery delays costs
would probably be over what we can obtain them from WX9X. Oh yeah, I think he can
except just about any graphics format for the art work. So don't worry if you don't
have Corel. I like Corel draw in that it's really a drawing program and not a paint
or graphics program. Thus when you create the card it is truly WSIWYG and the screen
shows you a ruler scale for exact dimensions while you work on it. Not an advert, but
you can get Corel version 9 in OEM package (no paper manual) off eBay for around $30
new. The package contains Corel Draw, Corel Photo-Paint and a bunch of other
presentation type applications. Anyhoot, that's much more information than is
required in this email (I just get carried away, hi).

Don't forget the cards can be double-sided. So front could be standard with a report
area on the reverse side.

P.S. Gary I've seen many QSL's with the AWA, QCWA and other logos on them. I suppose
since a QSL isn't a money making venture they are probably allowed. The Millen logo
might be different since it's a company logo and not an organization logo. Also
please note the background logo on our JMS membership roster area. It uses the "M
Gear" logo within. I made that a few years back. However, I think I lost the
original computer artwork in a system crash.
