Hi John,
Great going on the RAS-5. I'm sure you will be surprised on how well it does on CW
too, especially on 160 and 80 meters, even with GC coils.
As far as using the W1HRX callsign. Here is the direct quote from our Document of
Organization (from webpage):
"7. Use of Club Station
Any member wishing to use the Societies amateur radio station for transmitting
purposes must satisfy the trustee as to their authority to do so by presenting a copy
of their amateur radio license. Both the president and trustee must approve requests
to utilize the station's callsign for special operating events. A copy of the station
log with operators signatures must be submitted to the Trustee for filing after an
approved special operating event is concluded."
Our trustee is Charter Member John Zitzelberger, W6GL. Probably the best way would be
to place requests open to the whole society (or at least most of us) via this
reflector. I know a few years back we were chatting about how to run multiple
instances of the call at one time. Thus, several members could us the call in one
contest or special event. I never did find out the true FCC ruling on such a case.
Could we sign W1HRX/1, W1HRX/2, W1HRX/3 etc and keep only one station per district.
Or do we have to sign using our call like W1HRX/N9OO, W1HRX/K5RO etc. I know the ARRL
has used W1AW/5 recently at a conference activity and since they were probably also
running W1AW from Newington at the same time my guess would be that both are allowed.
If the FCC questions the /1, /2 etc. method I'd point them to the ARRL's usage of the
same.
I feel that the QSL's would be a first before we started using the call as
individuals. I've thought of another way of paying for the cards, just at this very
moment, hi. As with the last AWA/JMS event I could put out the cash for the cards,
let's say 1000 or 2000 of them. Then whenever a member uses the call they would make
a request upon the events completion for the number of cards they will need to meet
their QSLing requirements. Thus, each member would pay on a need basis and the cost
would be a actual cost per card, plus a small mailing fee. Thus no profit is made.
My guess is it won't be more than 10 cents per card.
I'll address more on the QSL issue in a reply to Gary WA4IAM.
