Hi Gary,

I haven't heard Howard mention your receiver or filter, but I am sure it is
in the que somewhere. I will remind him for you that you are hoping to have it
for the contest. I am thinking about the Charlotte hamfest again this year
and if I tell him that I am going, if you will be there, I feel he will push it
toward the front. Understandably, he is hesitant to ship the gear and a lot of
folks make a special trip to drop off and pick up. If things work out, I
would be happy to bring it down for you He has been pretty good about meeting
people's deadlines, especially when he has had their gear for some time. Not so,
the guy who drops it today and wants it yesterday.

Price wise, I really can't tell y ou since,as you said, it depends on what
has to be done. I have heard $450.00 for an average, so you can get ready for
that ball park as a minimum. He really does a fantastic job and you will have
a better than new unit when you get it back. He gives you a book with it,
detailing everything that was done and all the alignment information and specs.
You also get all the old parts.

Recently, I have been getting over there on the average of once a week. I doo
things like bead blasting, sanding and panel prep for him. I will also be
working on reassembly of KWS-1 power supplies early next year. He lives about
60 miles away from me and with traffic, it takes an hour and a half each way,
so it is a bit of a haul.
In return for my labor, he is going to do some work for me in the future so
tyere is a method in my madness, but I am gaining a lot of experience watching
him work. He is really a craftsman.

I was going to make the AWA meet last year, but it was right after the
hamfest and I really hated to make that drive again so soon. Maybe I will feel
different this year. What are the dates? I feel that I will find more what I am
looking for at the fest, but I did find several "consumer" receivers year
before last at AWA and they followed me home.

My collection is going great....over 150 units. My main problem is the same
as everyones, no display space. It is really more than critical. I hate to
mess up my house with radios in every room, but something is going to have to
give if I want to display them. That means add on or move to larger quarters.

The forum sounds great. I hope I can make it and if I do, I will put it at
the top of the list for things to do.

Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year .

73,

John, W4AWM
