Hi John!
I hope you had a nice Xmas! Things have been a little hectic around
here due to the holidays, hence the delay in replying to your email.
That's great that you're helping Howard out. What I wouldn't give to
live close enough to go over and just hang out there once in a while. If
you love Collins equipment that is certainly the place to be.
Next time you're over there I wonder if you could ask him where my
75A-4 is on the list order? I dropped it off to him at the beginning of
last May, and I know how extremely busy he is so I haven't emailed or
phoned to bug him about it. He'll probably remember it as it is one of
the few Toronto produced 75A-4s he's had. I'm hoping he also received
the Dave Curry 3.1 kHz mechanical filter I forwarded to him soon after I
dropped the receiver off (I already had the Curry 500 Hz and 6 kHz
filter in it). When I brought the receiver to him I told him there was
no rush and the only deadline I had for it was that I wanted to have it
in time to use for the AWA OT DX Contest in April. He said he should
have it done before then. I'm not trying to press him on it, I'm just
kind of curious since I haven't heard anything since I dropped it off.
By the way, about how much do his restorations on the A-4 usually cost?
I know it varies from unit to unit, but I'm curious about the ballpark
range. I just want to make sure I have my funds lined up when the time
comes.
Are you going to make it to the CC-AWA meet in Charlotte this year? I
don't know if you've heard, but I'm heading up the first ever ham radio
forum at the meet, which is scheduled for 9 am on Saturday morning
during the meet. I have Herman Cone, N4CH, lined up to give a
presentation on some of his prototype and low production ham equipment
items from his collection. It should be a lot of fun so I hope you can
make it!
I hope you have been doing well. How's the collecting been going? If I
make it to the Richmond hamfest again this year I'll look for you.
