My good friend Scott passed  along your email regarding the  Flash (See
below).  I'm surprised
your Google search didn't find "The James Millen Society" (JMS) webpage or
the other really fine
National related sights.  Albeit Scott does have some really neat stuff on
the SW-3 on his site!
Maybe that's why I still use Metacrawler ;)

I am forwarding your email along to the Millen Society reflector to see if
anyone out there has ever
seen one.  Most likely that tiny locking band is all the Millen that exists
in this product.  Millen was a
big manufacturer of electronic and electronic related mechanical parts.  So
either an existing
product, like a standard vacuum tube lock, was used or they might have made
the part on a
contract bases for the company that made the flash.  Millen also made alot
of Mu-Shield devices,
magnetic protection, for CRT tubes and those often used mounting straps and
locks too.

Your desire to "find  out more about the history of James Millen, the man,
the company" can be
found on the JMS website at http://www.qsl.net/jms .  Millen Mfg started in
1939.

Not sure how much luck you'll have finding info on the flash, but perhaps
someone at the Antique
Wireless Association can help with the actual flash tube for you.  They have
a website at
http://www.antiquewireless.org/ with a nice message board.

P.S.  I checked my eight volume set of RCA tube manuals (HB-3 Set) and they
didn't list flash
tubes.  Sorry hoped I had the info for you.

Don, I got this email from a guy with a Millen electronic flash.  I didn't
know Millen flash's.  I replied to him, pointing him to the all knowing, all
seeing, James Millen Society for information.  Did I mine a nugget here?
