[JMS] What Millen item is this please?

Hi all, I think Gary's correct. That looks like the impedance matcher for using the
90711 with high impedance crystal oscillator transmitters. The 90711 is very low
output impedance. Great for driving coax and even antennas directly. Great QRP
transmitter, hi. Transmitters like the 90800 were designed for xtal operation thus
hi-Z when driving a VFO into the crystal socket (grid of osc tube).
I was going to bid on that little baby too, but I thought it closed tomorrow
morning and not today. Oh well, glad it went to a JMS member. Plus, my 90801
transmitter was designed for either crystal operation or via the flick of the
switch on the back panel directly from the low impedance line of a 90711 VFO! How
nice.
Great going Gary on getting the VFO. Your on your way now!! I have been leaving
my 711 on all the time now. In fact it's been running non-stop filament voltage
wise since September. I use the REMOTE VFO control line connected to the
transmitters PTT circuit. So there is no B+ to the VFO tubes until I flick the HV
switch to the transmitter. I'd suspect the VFO to be nice and stable after all
these months, hi. It's a very stable VFO even without going through my extreme.
Also, great news on the article. I was chatting with Barry earlier this week on
the phone and I was wondering when your article would appear. Barry is very
interested in our Millen stuff and is always looking for articles guys. I know Jim
Hanlon has written stuff promoting his Millen equipment. Hopefully someday I'll
get off my duff and write a few articles on some of the other Millen stuff around
here.
So John, if you got the little Millen matcher, that's great news. If you ever get
the time please provide details on the internal construction. Especially the tuned
coil design. It's a simple circuit and would probably lend itself to easy
duplication. Plus, it's much smaller than the unit I built up that uses regular
old transmitting output coils (Junior B&W's). Plus, mine requires changing the
coil for each VFO band selected. Nowhere near as nice as the Millen unit.
73 all,
Don N9OO
