Subject: [Louisville Hamfest] You know you're going to go!
C'mon, you know you'll be going to Greater Louisville Hamfest 2017. It's coming the Saturday after Labor Day, but time is running out to get your tickets and reserve tables. The mail-in deadline is this coming Thursday, August 31. The Greater Louisville Hamfest Store <http://store.louisvillehamfest.com/> will reserve tables through Saturday, September 2 and tickets will remain on sale through Wednesday, September 6. Take advantage of getting your Admission Ticket in advance and save $1 off the day-of-show admission.
So, have you looked around your ham shack lately? I mean really looked? Are there radios, mikes, cables or other things piled in a corner or under the table? Do you need to find them a new home? Getting a table in the flea market is a great way to make some money and pass yesterday's treasures onto new shack where they're not just a home for the spiders. For just $8 you can rent a 6-foot table to display - and hopefully sell - all those items that another ham could put to use and enjoy like you did when you first got them. What a great way to share the hobby with others!
But wait... you think there's just too much to have to bring inside. Sure, you know we have a cart to use, but still, it's a lot of equipment to move. Have you thought about tailgating? For just $5 you can sell out of your trunk or just move stuff from the car to your own table. Everyone checks out the tailgating area and for the last several years the spaces have sold out. Be sure to get there early Saturday to tailgate.
Of course everyone knows an admission ticket is needed too, but you'll want that. It gives you chances for the Door Prize and the Major Prize drawings - $7 in advance and $8 day of show. Door Prize drawings will be throughout the day (you'll need to be present to get those) and the Major Prizes will be drawn for at 1:15pm. You may even want to get some Extra Prize Tickets at $1 each or 6 for $5.
I forgot to mention, since ARTS, CCARC, BARS and KYDXA all have tables, they may let club members sell items at their tables too. If you do sell something that way, please be sure to pass on something for their help. And if you're not a member of a local club, talk to these hams to find out all the things they do. It's a great way to learn more, be more active in ham radio and get to know other hams. Each club has members with years of Amateur Radio experience and working knowledge that you just can't get from books and magazines.
Need a new callsign hat? There will be embroiders at the show - Dennis & Maxine Smith. Jeremy Cecil Vintage Radios will also be there.
The Jefferson County Search Dog Association will be at GLH-2017 too. They get more high tech every year and it's interesting to see their advances in search and rescue using ham radio. The handlers will have the SAR Dogs there too and I'm sure they will have things to hand out. Be sure to stop by their booth near the back door of the Ham-Mania flea market/vendor area. They will be near Transel Corporation, just down from T.A.W. Amateur Radio who is just across from Debco Electronics, in front of the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre Concession Stand. The stand will be open starting at 6am during setup on Saturday until the food runs out - usually around 1:30 or so. Chef makes a great breakfast platter and the hamburgers are delicious. Just saying...
Remember your pictures for the Show Off Your Shack contest and your card for the QSL Card contest. QSL Card checking is also scheduled at the ARRL Booth. We also have VE Testing (ham radio exams) starting at 9am with signups at 8am. And keep an eye out for any other things that are happening as well.
See you at the hamfest! Bob K4RVM
