Saturday August 3rd, The Boy Scout event - SpaceJam 7
(www.spacejamboree.com) in Rantoul, Illinois (40.293, -88.148) will
feature a high altitude balloon flight with a crossband repeater and
SSTV. The launch time will be 1245 UTC, 7:45 CDT on Saturday 3 August
2013.
The transmit frequency into the repeater will be 144.34 MHz and the
receive frequency from the repeater will be 446.025 MHz. There will be
a net control operator using the call sign WB9SA.
The SSTV will be on either 147.48 MHz using the Scottie2 format. The
system will also carry a low power DF beacon on 433.92 MHz with the
call sign KC9QBN. APRS data will be transmitted on 144.99 MHz using
the call sign WB9SA-11.
The balloon should reach an altitude over 30 km (100,000 feet). The
ascent rate will be about 5 m/s (1000 feet/minute). The balloon will
reach 18 km (60,000 feet) about one hour after launch. Maximum
altitude will be achieved around 1430 UTC. In previous years, the
repeater has been worked by individuals as far to the east as western
Pennsylvania and as far to the west as eastern Kansas.
This will be the 81st flight for the Balloon Assisted Stratospheric
Experiment program at DePauw University and the fifth year for flights
from SpaceJam.
