The activity map http://www.hdxcc.org/inqp/activity.php has coverage in
every county, but we sure could use another mobile/rover up north just
in case... anybody feel like venturing out into the world of $4.30 gas?
A number of counties have stepped up to put more than one signal on the
air... a special thanks to them... Daviess, Starke, Vigo, Allen, Marion
and Johnson to name a few. I am sure that, like last year, numerous home
and club stations will appear once Saturday rolls around.
REMINDER - Please observe the frequency from 035 to 040 KHz above the
bottom of the band as a mobiles CW window. Their signals are usually a
few S units below a portable/rover/fixed station's. So let's not CQ in
the "mobile window" if you're not mobile. Once the New England party
starts up, and the inevitable RTTY contest (without so much as a "QRL?"
in CW), we may not find any mobiles in our CW window.... so be sure to
look for them outside the CW window if it's full of big signals.

Likewise, mobiles running phone are real masochists.... so listen for
them. If you're calling CQ from a big station, be sure to ask for
"mobiles only" once in a while. I say this every year, and every year
there's at least one big signal who works one W8 after another and never
hears me calling from a new county. His loss, not mine.
ALSO... You Hoosiers can work ANYBODY ... even stations in the IRA
(Italian), New England, W7, and W0 QSO parties. So don't miss the
opportunity to add some multipliers (or at least contest points). And
don't forget to work them on SSB too. Also, Indiana mobile/rovers can
re-work W7QSO Party participants if you are in a new county. Most W7's
are aware of that feature in their rules.
It will be interesting this year to see how many multi-op, multi
transmitter entries we get. This is a great opportunity to get your
non-HF ops geared up for Field Day ..... "Don't sit there and spin the
dial, call CQ!"
OPERATING SCHEDULES . A few rover/mobiles have posted operating plans,
but it's a good idea for them all to post a ROUGH schedule of when
they'll be in what counties.... it helps the county hunters and
hard-core contesters to add new counties. Also, if you are in one of
those "rare" counties and plan to operate just a short time from home,
let us have an idea when and where to look for you.
Let's hope for a nice day, but not so nice that folks don't want to stay
inside and play radio. Indiana has a lot to be proud of (for one thing
we aren't broke like some states and we don't have a lot of crazies like
other states)..... so let's show some Hoosier pride (or Boiler Up, if
that's appropriate).
