*ANNOUNCING THE 2011 CENTRAL KENTUCKY ARRL HAMFEST*

The 2011 Central Kentucky ARRL Hamfest will be held Sunday, August 14. 
Location again this year will be at the American Legion Post #34 in 
Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. If you are traveling from the west on I-64, take 
Exit 48 or 53A. If exiting at 48, follow KY 151 to U.S. 127; turn right 
onto 127 and take it to the second intersection of U.S. 62, Turn left 
onto U.S. 62, travel about 1/4 mile to the Fairgrounds, then right into 
the parking area. Exit 53A off I-64 exits to U.S. 127. Travel south 
about eight miles to the second intersection with U.S. 62; turn left 
onto U.S. 62, travel about 1/4 mile to the Fairgrounds, then turn right 
into the parking area. *Alternate:* Take Bluegrass Parkway to U.S. 127 
(Exit 59); proceed north toward Lawrenceburg about four miles; turn 
right onto U.S. 62, travel about 1/4 mile to the Fairgrounds, then turn 
right into the parking area.

If traveling from the east, take I-64 to exit 53; follow U.S. 127 south 
about eight miles to the second intersection with U.S. 62; turn left 
onto U.S. 62, travel about 1/4 mile and then turn right into the parking 
area. *Alternate:* Take Bluegrass Parkway to Exit 59 (U.S. 127), travel 
north about four miles to U.S. 62; turn right and travel about 1/4 mile 
to the Fairgrounds then turn right into the parking area.

If traveling from the south, take U.S. 127 north to U.S. 62; turn right 
onto U.S. 62; travel about 1/4 mile to the Fairgrounds then turn right 
into the parking area.

If traveling from the north, take U.S. 127 south about eight miles past 
I-64 to U.S. 62; turn left onto U.S. 62, travel about 1/4 mile to the 
Fairgrounds then turn right into the parking area.

Admission is $6.00 each at the gate on the day of the Hamfest. Admission 
includes one Grand Prize stub and the purchaser is eligible for the 
hourly door prize drawings. Children 12 years-of-age or younger are 
admitted free. Extra chances for the Grand Prizes may be purchased for 
$1.00 each, or a set of six for $5.00.

Flea market and commercial vendors may start setting up at either 
6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, or at 6:00 AM on Sunday. Cost for tables inside 
the building is admission for each person over 12 years-of-age, plus 
$15.00 per table if purchased prior to August 8 ($25.00 per table on 
Hamfest day; plus $6.00 per person attending). If you need electricity, 
you must bring an extension cord. Cost for setting up in the outside 
Flea Market tailgating area is $5.00 per vehicle, plus paid admission 
for each person over 12 years-of-age. No electricity is available in the 
outside tailgating area.

*The Prizes.* You need not be present to win one of the major prizes. 
Door prizes will be announced hourly over a PA system. You must be 
present to claim a door prize.

*Forums/Presentations/Special Events.* Forums will be presented and 
meetings will be held throughout the day. The following forums and 
meetings are tentatively scheduled, more may be arranged so inquire at 
the Club/ARRL table.

Times and locations of forums/presentations will be announced throughout 
the day.

*License Exams.* Amateur radio examinations (ARRL VEC) are scheduled to 
be conducted Sunday morning. Registration starts at 10:30 AM, testing at 
11:00 AM. Preregistration would be appreciated, but not required. To 
advance register for the exam or information contact *Fernie 
Williams/KE4MAI*by e-mail (fernie at ke4mai.com <mailto:fernie at ke4mai.com>) 
or by telephone (859) 245-2140. You will need: a check or money order 
for $15.00 marked payable to ARRL VEC; a COPY of your signed Amateur 
Radio license (if you are currently licensed); the original and copy of 
any Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination for any element 
you have passed during the past 12 months; photo ID and social security 
card.

If you are disabled, it is mandatory that you send a description of your 
disability and the test elements that you wish to take so that Fernie 
can prepare to accommodate you. Applicants should check in at the exam 
area (location will be announced Sunday) before 11:00 AM on Hamfest day. 
All written exam elements will be given. No code tests are given.

*Parking is Free! *The parking area is inside the Fairgrounds property 
gate. Directions for getting into the area will be given by the persons 
selling tickets.

*Motels/Restaurants/Attractions.* Motels and restaurants are located 
along U.S. 127 near the fairgrounds, and off I-64 at exits 53 and 58. 
Most motels are 10-15 minutes or less from the Hamfest site.

There are campgrounds in Frankfort not far from I-64 at Exit 58. Also, 
the Kentucky Horse Park is located at Exit 120 off I-75 (follow signs 
posted on I-64), and has modern, reasonably priced camping facilities. 
You may want to come into the area early on Saturday and tour the Horse 
Park.
