A packet workshop will be held in Lafayette on Saturday, FEB 19, 9:00
a.m. - 12:00 p.m., sponsored by Tippecanoe County ARES. The workshop
is open to all amateurs. We will start with a quick configuration of
a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC, then focus on setting up and using Outpost
(www.outpostpm.org).
Registration is required for this workshop. There is no fee, but we
must be expecting you. The registration deadline is at noon on
Wednesday, FEB 16. For more information and to register, visit:
www.w9tca.com/packet-workshop
Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptop (Windows 98 SE or
later), TNC (with manual), and connecting cables. You may also bring
your radio and antenna/dummy load, if you like, as we will have a
working PBBS/node/digi on the air at the training facility. Access to
110V AC will be provided, but you may want to bring an extension
cord/power strip, and a 12V DC power supply or battery for your
TNC/radio, if you have it.
The recommended TNC is the Kantronics KPC-3/KPC-3+, which has become
pretty much the packet standard in amateur radio. Other models/brands
of TNCs will also do, as will AGWPE, if you have it already configured
and working with Outpost. A list of TNCs known to work well with
Outpost can be found here: www.outpostpm.org/support.html
If you plan to attend, be sure to arrive early to connect and set up
your equipment, as the workshop will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
