Subject: [Chapter 36] Indiana State Parks on the Air

Fellow QCWA Members,

This is just an FYI e-mail to anyone within the QCWA or Porter County ARC that would be interested in operating from an Indiana state park during Indiana's first participation in the State Parks on the Air Contest to be held on September 10, 2011.  The Lake County ARC has embraced this event with great enthusiasm and will be activating the Indiana Dunes State Park with two stations at City West Shelter.  This is a laid back no pressure type of contest in all modes, stationary or mobile.  To my surprise there are 24 Indiana state parks available.  Starke County has committed to activating Tippecanoe State Park and to my knowledge Potato Creek remains unclaimed.  It would be a nice showing of the north region if someone, and a group of someones, would like to activate Potato Creek or Turkey Run.  Rules and complete information on this special event can be found at the following web site:
http://inpota.com/

Even it you are not interested in activating a park, there will still be plenty of state park activity on September 10 for you to join in the fun of sending out contacts.  This contest is being held in conjunction with the Ohio State Parks contest on the same date.  All are welcome to stop by the Indiana Dunes and visit the LCARC special event in action.  Usual park fees apply.  Below is a paragraph that will appear on the Dunes Web page in September.  We will be activating special event call sign N9D (November Nine Dunes!)  So look for us on the air and give us a point.  Good luck to all.

Lake County Amateur Radio Club To Host Special Event Activity

On September 10, 2011 running from 11AM until 7PM the Lake County Amateur Radio Club of N/W Indiana will be activating The Indiana Dunes State Park in a state wide on the air contest that will also exhibit ham radio at City West Shelter.  The activity will consist of two ham radio stations making contacts with other Indiana and Ohio state parks.  Contacts will also be made with other ham radio operators nation wide that may be participating in the contest.  The stations will operate in various modes including voice, CW (Morse Code), and digital forms of communications.  Members will be on hand to explain the operation as well as introduce the public to the exciting adventures that can be found in modern day ham radio communications.  All are welcome to stop by and view the event.  Follow the park signs to the City West Shelter come in and say hello.
