Last night was the monthly meeting for Vigo County ARES.
The meeting was called to order by the Vigo County
Emergency Coordinator Doug Mullens, KB9JLR.
He made various announcements about ARES events, policy
and training but the most important thing he talked about
was probably the participation in the National Night Out
in August. More about that at the end of this message.
We also received training from Nick Vinardi, N9WG.
He presented 2 sections of a training course as an
introduction to emergency communications.
Dan Whittington, W9OOT, had a us fill out forms to
register for Vigo County ARES and James Stadler, KC9JOD,
produced ID cards for us. Gene Mayfield, N9NJ, is in
charge of selling Vigo County ARES shirts.
Last night's meeting was well attended but more Vigo
County hams need to attend the monthly meetings and
be active in ARES. KB9JLR has given the attendees to
last night's meeting a duty assignment of bringing a new
attendee to the next meeting. The next meeting will be
7:00 PM, Monday, July 12th, in the cafeteria at Ryves
Youth Center. Normally the meeting is the first Monday
of the month but next month's meeting is postponed a
week due the Independence Day holiday the day before
the normal date.
You don't have to be a member of any particular club
or even a member of the ARRL to be active in Vigo
County ARES. You don't even have to be a resident
of Vigo County. Even if you're not a ham you will be
welcome to the meetings and may receive a duty
assignment. Elmering to work towards a license is
available. But to be active in Vigo County ARES
everybody needs to attend the monthly meetings and
training sessions.
The National Night Out is an event sponsored by the
Terre Haute City Police and is scheduled for Tuesday,
8/3/2010. Vigo County ARES is going to have an
important and highly visible role in this event. Success
at this event is essential for the future of Vigo County
ARES and KB9JLR points out for Amateur Radio
in general. Success is so important at this event that
the next 2 monthly meetings of Vigo County ARES
will be devoted to training for it. Also, attendance to
these training sessions is required for participation in
the event. So please attend the next Vigo County ARES
meeting on Monday, July 12th, 7:00 PM, at Ryves
Youth Center in Terre Haute.
Vigo County ARES has a web page at the following link.

There's lots of good info there.
Thanks,
