  Happy New Year to SMC,

  Todd -- KC9BQA here.

We're back on with the SSB net tonight, starting at 8:30pm.
I start out the net by looking south toward SMC-land, so be
aware of that. Because I love weak-signal operation, I enjoy
hearing from DX-type check-ins. If you think you're going to
try to participate, and you're a bit off the beaten path, feel free
to send me an email prior to 8:30pm, and I'll try to look extra
hard in your direction.

Also, I don't think anyone has yet announced the big VHF
contest coming up next weekend (Jan 17-18th). Lord knows
SMC dominates for HF contests and also for the June VHF.
So I'm going to encourage all of you to get on for the January
ARRL VHF Sweepstakes. Here's the rules:
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/jan-vhf-ss.html

I haven't been home for a January contest in several years,
so I'm looking forward to hitting this one hard. I hope to work
each of you on multiple bands. Many of us in Wisconsin can
work you quite easily, if you make a habit of turning your beams
north several times as you operate.

Talk this contest up amongst your radio buddies. Activity
breeds activity.

In fact, make a resolution to make VHF/UHF activity
important in 2009. The Central States VHF Society's
convention visits the Chicago area this July. The August
UHF contest continues to be a Midwest-oriented 'test.
Lots of good reasons to get involved with weak-signal
work in 2009.

   Thanks for your ear.
   73,
   Todd KC9BQA EN63ao
