Hello fellow Indiana D-STAR users!
We are planning on conducting a D-STAR workshop on Saturday, January 10, from
9:00 a.m. to noon. I know we have several users in the area, and I hope I
managed to get this email sent to everyone that may be interested.
With any new and capable technology comes a learning curve, and D-STAR is
certainly no exception! And since changes are still happening in the D-STAR
world on a weekly basis (daily, sometimes) it is a challenge to keep up with
it all.
While we certainly don't have ALL the answers, we do hope to answer a lot of
questions, help you learn a bit more about the technology, and introduce you
to some of the more advanced D-STAR applications! Don't be overwhelmed by
D-STAR and its seemingly complex nature; it's a learning experience for us
all.
The first hour of the workshop will cover the basics of D-STAR, such as
digital callsign routing, radio programming, and features of Gateways and the
G2 network. The remainder of the session will introduce D-STAR users to some
of the more advanced features, like DV data (D-Chat, d-Rats, etc.), system
linking, reflectors, DV-Dongle, D-STAR HotSpot, the gmsk decoder, and other
emerging applications.
IMPORTANT:
Anyone interested in attending MUST BE REGISTERED at LEAST 48 hours in advance
of the workshop, preferably much sooner. Registration to attend is REQUIRED,
as we must give your name to SIA security at the main gate in order to allow
you access to the Training Center. Please contact WR9A (wr9a at verizon.net) for
further information and to register for this D-STAR workshop.
DATE & LOCATION:
The D-STAR workshop is scheduled for Saturday morning, January 10, from 9:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It is being held near Lafayette, Indiana, at the Subaru of
Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant at 5500 SR 38 E near I-65. The workshop will be
located in Room C of the SIA Training & Reception Center. It's the newer
looking building out in front of the SIA factory on SR 38 E, just west of
I-65. Here's a link to the location on Google maps:

You must enter through the main gate and stop at the guard shack. Security
should have your name on a list to allow you entrance to the Training and
Reception Center. Once you are given a pass and allowed to proceed, turn right
at the first opportunity. Keep going straight through the first parking area
and around to the front of the Training & Reception Center. There is a parking
lot right out in front of it and you should find a spot there, allowing easy
access to the front doors of the Reception Center. I've included an aerial
photo of the area so you can see how it is laid out.
If for some reason security cannot find your name on the list, you will need
to be able to identify yourself as a visitor for the Ham Radio Meeting in the
Training and Reception Center. Security may or may not allow you in based on
that information. If you are having no luck getting past the gate, give me a
ring at 474-7405. Special thanks to WA9DDI for making the arrangements to use
the facilities there, and to Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) as our
gracious host.
Workshop size will be limited to about 35 people. Reserve your spot as soon as
possible! I look forward to seeing you there. 73
