Advanced Weather Spotter Training
Date: March 27th
Time: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Location:  Evansville Public Library, Central Branch located at 200 Martin 
Luther King Jr. Blvd.

To obtain critical weather information the National Weather Service has a 
volunteer weather spotter program.
This program consists of over 230,000 trained weather spotters, who provide 
life saving information during times of severe weather events. These 
volunteers help keep their communities safe by providing timely and accurate 
reports to the National Weather Service.
Weather spotters are part of the ranks of citizens who form the Nations 
first line of defense against severe weather. There can be no finer reward 
than to know their efforts have given the community the precious gift of 
time, seconds and minutes, which can help save lives.
The National Weather Service has 122 local Weather Forecast Offices; each 
with a Warning Coordinator Meteorologist This meteorologist is responsible 
for administering the Weather Spotter program in their area. Training is 
conducted through these local offices and covers:

1. Basics of thunderstorm development
2. Fundamentals of storm structure
3. Identifying potential severe weather features
4. Information to report
5. How to report information
6. Basic severe weather safety

Mr. Ron Fields, of the National Weather Service, Paducah KY, will provide 
instruction on becoming a certified weather spotter. Mr. Fields has been 
with the National Weather Service for 37 years, and is assigned as Liaison 
to Evansville from Paducah.

This training session is free of charge, and is provided courtesy on the 
National Weather Service, Paducah Kentucky.
