PRESS RELEASE BEGINS HERE:

Indy 500 Special Event Station Takes the Green Flag

Gentlemen, start your QSOs!

On May 25, 2004, W9IMS became the Official Amateur Radio Club of the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- the first time in history that a ham radio
club has received this designation.

We are now conducting a special event operation on various frequencies and
modes (watch DX spots) -- including 6 meters when possible -- and will
continue to do so through Race Day, May 30, 2004.

And it won't stop there: We will also operate special event stations for the
other two races that complete the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Triple
Crown -- the United States Grand Prix (Formula One) on June 20, 2004, and
the Brickyard 400 (NASCAR) on August 8, 2004. Look for us to begin these
operations about three weeks before each race: during the month of June (for
the U.S. Grand Prix) and from mid-July through early August (for the
Brickyard 400), again ending the operations on the respective Race Days.

Stations that work us (or log us, in the case of SWLs) will receive an
official W9IMS Indianapolis Motor Speedway QSL card. Moreover, although
we're still finalizing these plans, we hope to offer a couple of collectable
bonuses: (1) a distinctly different QSL card for each of the three special
event operations; and (2) a certificate, suitable for framing, awarded to
anyone who takes the "checkered flag" by working (or logging) W9IMS during
all three operations. These special events will continue to occur annually,
and any combination of years will be valid as long as all three operations
are worked (or logged).

So the only way to qualify is to start now.

For an official W9IMS Indianapolis Motor Speedway QSL card, send an SASE to:

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Amateur Radio Club
P.O. Box 18495
Indianapolis, IN 46218-0495
USA

Stations outside the United States may QSL via the bureau.
