The response to the All-Call for Indiana Hams to assist with the
mini-marathon has been good. The big question is, when and where. Mark you
calendar for Saturday May 8th. The race begins around 7AM. The where part
will be decided by Mike Palmer-N9FEB who is heading up this massive
undertaking. Please contact Mike directly if you can help.

It's time for Marion County's ARES members and amateur radio community at
large to shine!
We need approximately 80 people to totally man the 18 Aid Stations (Pits),
12 Mile Markers, and other positions on this event.
Amateur Radio is the only means of communicating with these locations. All
aid stations are full triage sites, which means, they are capable of
treating whatever might come up during the event in the way of casualties.
Our job is to provide the Patient Tracking ... to let the Event Coordinators
know who is out of the event, who is injured, or who is receiving treatment
and where.
We also man the 12 mile marker positions displaying the colored Flag that
depicts the course condition (green, yellow, red, or black).
This is a vast difference over any other year we have ever been involved.
I would like to put at least 2 people at every site so that they can relieve
each other for personal breaks and such, and still cover what needs to be
covered.
There are a total of 30 route positions, not counting those at Military
Park, Hospitals, and at the Red Cross HQs. I have only one person at 17
positions and none at 10 others. We really need to fill these 10 spots at
least. All-in-all, we need 80 volunteers! We have 45.
If you want to double-up on a particular position ... great! Let me know
which one you want.
These are the positions that still do not have anyone on them:
Start / Finish
Metro Bus (tail end)
Mile Marker 6 (inside IMS Track)
Mile Marker 7 (inside IMS Track)
Pit 11 (behind Brickyard Inn in parking lot)
Pit 14 (10th & Holmes)
Mile Marker 11 (10th & Pershing)
Pit 18 (New York & Lansing - just across White River Bridge on New York)
First-Aid Booth (inside Military Park)
Info Tent (inside Military Park)
Marion County has 74 members on the books. Of these, only 19 have signed
up. Come join the activities ... that's why you joined ARES, to volunteer
your services in a time of need. This is not just a social event, we have a
serious part of this huge event that has the eyes of the entire city and
state on us.
Please talk this subject up on the air. We need to put our best foot
forward on this one.
Thanks to those who have signed up ... and to those who haven't ... please
consider helping out.
