Subject: [KYHAM] [wvarrl] Stolen Ham Equipment - From
the Charleston WV Area

Hey Folks, I recieved this via the WV reflector... It
is terribly
sad that someone would do this to a repeater site and
steal what they
did. Just a heads up.. and be on the lookout for
someone wanting to
sell something suspiciously resembling this IC-706

RE: [wvarrl] Stolen Ham Equipment - From the
Charleston WV Area

On 06-13-03 the following gear (+ other items) was
stolen
from a Charleston (Campbells Creek area) Repeater Site
around 11:15 - 11:45
AM.

Icom IC-706 MkI (serial # available) (w/MARS mod)
(mint condition except
dusty)
Timewave DSP-9 (serial # available) (4 holes drilled
in bottom for mounting)
NOTE: Serial Numbers are in NCIC - (National
FBI Computer)
110 foot stainless steel antenna wire (new) (B&W end
feed V 1.8-30.0)
weller soldering iron (very old and worn in
appearance - light blue handle)
weller soldering iron stand (good condition - doesn't
look new at all)
Manf unknown - soldering gun w/solder feeder
attachment (very old looking
-worn)
master pad lock, combination style (new in package)

Further info: a hatchet or ax was used to gain entry
(deadbolt & door locks)
newer GMC pickup silver w/ 4 white males (mid
20's - late 30's)
as well as an older Chevy white pickup 2 white
males (mid 40's)
2 younger white males on 4 wheelers seen in the
area by a witness.
The IC-706 & the Timewave DSP-9 were rack mouted and
removed
from the rack mount panel on site. (rack
recovered after being
discarded
in an area of brush). No other repeater items
appeared to be tampered
with (the 706 appeared to the sole item of
interest - someone needing
an HF rig I guess - which seems to narrow the
list of suspects, sad to
say). The 706 was setup as an Emergency Aux
Base for disaster
, etc., communications for use thru my repeater
system for all to use
if
or should an unfortunate time had arisen.

No Insurance to cover the loss. (various reasons),

Any information would be welcome. I usually don't
ask for any help from
anyone (financial - i.e.), but I feel this loss not
only affects me ($$$$) but
affects All Amateurs in our Local Community and the
State of WV as it
relates to Disaster (etc..) Communications. I am not
asking for $$$$, but am
asking for YOUR HELP in the recovery of the stolen
equipment and or the
prosecution
of the person(s) involved. Please Help, if you have,
or in the future
receive any
information regarding this theft,
the investigation is being conducted by Tpr Nichols
(Quincy Detachment)
949-3136
and Lt. Mangus w/ Kanawha County Sheriffs Department
357-0384 or 357-0371
WV State Police - Tpr Nichols is the Lead investigator
(to reduce possible
conflicts
of interest, since the person(s) unknown stole
property belonging to a member
of
the Kanawha County Sheriffs Department.

Not everyone has internet access, so pass this info
along to other Hams
thru out the state (word of mouth, nets, etc.).
