It certainly is sad to break the news on Walt being a Silent Key.
He was a good amateur radio friend of mine.

Walt was also known to his Air Force MARS friends as AFA1IA.

Walter R. Ring, dead at 82 years of age.

HARTFORD CITY - Walter Richard Ring Sr., age 82, died on
Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at the Blackford Community Hospital
Emergency Room in Hartford City.

Walter was born on Dec. 13, 1920, in Hymera, Ind. (Sullivan
County) to Herbert Ring and Martha Caroline Brown Ring. His
parents preceded him in death, Herbert on May 16, 1937, and
Martha on Nov. 20, 1993.

Walter married Phyllis Ann Bradbury Ring on June 27, 1944, in
Farmersburg, Ind. They were married 59 years. Phyllis survives.
Walter retired in 1983 from Anaconda Wire and Cable Co. in Marion
after 38 years. Walter graduated from Montpelier High School in
1964 with his son, Walter R. Ring Jr.

He was a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Indiana Forest 189;
Yorktown IOOF Lodge 345; Montpelier Masonic Lodge 600; Scottish
Rite-Valley of Fort Wayne; Indiana York Rite-College 55; Grand
Co. York Rite Chapter No. 55 RAM, Council No. 28 R and S.M.,
Comm. No. 21 K.T.; Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne; Knights of the
York Cross of Honor; Sahara SCC 51470; and Purity Chapter of the
Order of Eastern Star 126.

Walter was an avid fisherman and hunter and was known to many as
a Ham Radio Operator: Call letters W 9 N P A. Walter was also a
past master of the Gas City Masonic Lodge 645. Walter was a U.S.
Army Veteran, having served in the Army at the time of the
bombing of Pearl Harbor. Walter also has the honor of holding two
patents which are used in Cable Machine Processing. These
machines are still used today.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; five sons, Walter R. Ring
Jr. (wife: Anna L.) of Montpelier, Robert H. Ring (wife: Judy)
of Nampa, Idaho, Jerry L. Ring (wife: Diana) of Anchorage,
Alaska, Thomas E. Ring Sr. (wife: Kendra) of Fuquay Varina,
N.C., and Daniel Ring (wife: Teresa) of Hartford City; a
daughter, Cheryl A. Sanders (husband: Derrick) of De Sota, Mo.;
12 grandchildren, Heather Ann Kemmerer, Ginger R. Bass, Bobby
Ring, Eric Ring, Jeromy Ring, Jeffrey Ring, Thomas Ring Jr.,
Daniel W.  Ring, Derek R. Ring, Thomas Adney Jr., Phillip Adney
and Kristie Walter; 14 great-grandchildren; a nephew; and two
nieces.

Those preceding Walter in death include his parents, Herbert Ring
and Martha Caroline Brown Ring; a brother, Harold L. Ring; and
two grandchildren, Marty Ring and Jericho Ring.

Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at 10 a.m. at
Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High St., Hartford City.
Visitation will be Tuesday 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday
from 8 a.m. until service in Keplinger Funeral Home.

A Masonic memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in
the Keplinger Funeral Home by the Montpelier Masonic Lodge 600 F
& AM. Military services will be conducted by the Moyer-Pooler
American Legion Post at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery on
Wednesday.

Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of
Muncie.

Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211
North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
