[ILQSO] county corners

WMSN/SALI/JOHN/POPE appears to be basically dead-on four corner
Same with CHAM/EDGR/VERM/DOUG ditto
Same with WBGO/OGLE/BOON/DEKA

KANE/KEND/DUPG/WILL corner is off about 300 feet as is HAML/WHIT/EDWA/GALL.

This is according to DeLorme Street Atlas 2008 version. I am willing to listen to contrary evidence from other equally-reliable sources.

I haven't investigated all of the 3-county corners to see which are not "wet". I know some are pretty much inaccessible unless you have a chopper or ATV.

Making a new "ruling" to disallow all but 2 counties poses some problems.

The first and most obvious is that it blows away a lot of historical data. That isn't an iron-clad reason NOT to change if the arguments to do so are better.

The second is the fact that getting (and giving) 3 counties (or 4) at a time has provided a certain "flavor" to ILQP that many enjoy. This includes the fact that several groups have, for several years, activated legitimate 3 (or 4) county corners.

Mobiles (by definition and by ILQP rules) never hand out more than one county per contact. Rovers are a different story.

Any changes are going to irritate someone. Making no changes will irritate someone.

Still thinking...

There are very few true 4 county corners in Illinois, (the intersection of Hamilton, White, Edwards, and Gallatin is not a 4 county intersection. The junction is off by 280 feet)

but there are a great number of 3-county intersections. And an infinite number of 2-county intersections

So the first guy to the 4 county intersection gets 1/3 more points per contact than the poor op who set up at a three county corner

I'd recommend 2 or 3 counties, but not four.... Mobiles who stick to main highways may never encounter a 3 county corner... they are usually found on crappy roads

Those looking for the exact location can buy the DeLorme map book for Illinois or get a computer mapper. Google Earth no longer shows county lines (a real shame as it was great for scouting out potential parking
spots)
