[ILQSO] Some thoughts on IQP

K9WX is planning to be "on the 30's" and N0AC "on the 8's". I've asked
AD4EB if he wants to pick a spot, and N9G will plan accordingly. K9WX's
suggestion about starting on 80 meters in a new county is a good one. I'm
hoping the high bands will be decent, but I expect 40 to be long from the
start and 80 to be a factor throughout the contest. I've been running
parks all week and was stunned to work NU7J in Seattle on 40 SSB at 2 pm!

N9G will also yelp on 146.55 once in awhile. I've found 2 fm to be more of
a distraction than anything else, but one never knows. I don't have a
separate radio of the band.

There are two counties where I'll just duck into the county, park, operate
and then move back into the other county: CASS (early, by 1800z) and MNRD
(probably around 1930z). If you don't pay attention, you'll miss those.

Please consider spotting the mobiles (and Rovers) often to
https://ch.w6rk.com/

Still hoping someone will step up and claim the orphaned counties up north.
I just can't get that far in 8 hours.
73, Jim N9JF

IQP is just around the corner! This is a great contest and a lot of fun.
There are still a few counties that are not spoken for.

We have some very good mobile operators again this year and they put on
quite a show! If you are mobile, please try to use the same frequency so
that we can find you as you move from county to county. Also, the bands have
improved quite a bit from the last few years. It will be easy to stay on 20
and 15 but please try to get to 40m every county change as those of us in
Illinois won't be able to hear you most of the time anywhere else.
40m may go long early so I hope we can hear you on 80m later in the contest.
Good luck and be safe! Thanks again for going mobile and making the contest
such a huge success!

Thanks to all of you that go portable. We are fortunate to have such good
groups that find these sites and set up field day style. I hope you have
good weather and conditions in the field. Right now the weather forecast
looks quite favorable.

IQP is one of the SMC chosen activity contests for its membership to earn
the Lifetime Achievement award. I hope to hear and work many of you in the
contest. SMC is also a sponsor of some of the awards.

73 and see you on Sunday!

Craig K9CT
