Good Afternoon All!
Well ended up operating from home instead of firing up the school radio.
Of course, had to wait til after the Bears game to play some radio, but was
able to put IROQ into quite a few logs. I spent all of my time on SSB, but
if I had known I might be the only one giving out IROQ, I would have jumped
to CW to help those folks out. After talking with a few folks, sounded
like there was more activity there than on SSB.
40 meters was a mess as I had a hard time finding an open spot to call CQ.
I didn't hear many Illinois stations, though heard many working IL. I
jumped over to 80m at 21:00 and I made QSO's like gangbusters. It was the
earliest I have ever moved to 80m and made more contacts there than I have
ever before in ILQP. Some highlights include the joy of being a "new
multi" for nearly every QSO, talking with fellow school (W9JWC) sponsor
WD9CIR about the SCR challenges this year, and having K9EID call me on 80m
as my last QSO.
I always enjoy operating during ILQP and look forward to it each year as it
usually kicks off a whole week of radio with operations from our school
station W9GRS in the School Club Roundup. This year will be different as
we will more than likely be operating remote if at all due to COVID
guidelines for Illinois schools. We'll see what happens.
Thanks again for a wonderful ILQP! Hopefully we'll be back on air as W9GRS
for 2021!
73 from the Flatlands of IROQ!
