Wow! That was a busy planned six hours that turned into a full 8 hours, and
left me too far from Indy to make my weekly sked with pals in TN and MI ....
so I tried it on 75 meters using the hamstick, and surprisingly it
worked....very few other 75 meter contacts, though... and 80 cw was rough as
well.... noise blanker was on all the time
Had a few 100+ hours and the rate meter even topped 150 a few times! If
there was a slow period, I didn't see it.... it may have been when I was
stopped to retrieve my 20 meter hamstick that got knocked off the roof by a
low branch and dragged for a few yards... or maybe when I had to inspect the
rock chip in my windsheild from being passed on a gravel road by a farmer
who thought I was driving too slow... or the slow period may have been
when I was driving along busier roads, which also seem to have the most
power line noise.... in some places I was totally deaf in spite of the K3's
noise blanker.
Speaking of gravel roads... I went rover this year so I could drive slower,
and on less busy roads (usually county lines are not busy) and put in at
least 40 minutes in each of the counties .... not going for a win, just
trying to be sure I got into as many logs as possible.... and yes, OM2VL was
loud on 20 AND 40 meters....he often broke the pileups, and some pileups
were total bedlam.... sorry if you got frustrated trying to work me, as many
stops lasted much longer than the planned 40 minutes and I still did not
work everyone
First time ever.... running a big pileup on 40 meter PHONE (thanks to a spot
by K1RO).... Hope I got everyone; it seemed my 100 watts and hamstick were
working really well on phone for once.
Will take a while to tear the mobile station apart and retrieve the
laptop.... hope to have a score within the week...
