Mel,

In past ILQP's I know I have offered to give a SSB frequency I was on over
to a mobile who happened to call me. More people needed to work him than me
and I could always find another frequency.

Subject: [ILQSO] Mobile window, suggested frequencies?

Craig asked
"Also, can you stay on the same freq on each band? It is easy to check for
you when you do that."

I don't see it in the rules, but suggest that Illinois do what we do in
INQP... set aside 035 to 040 above the bottom of the band for the MOBILE CW
window.... only mobiles (and weak signal rovers) may call CQ in the
window... makes it easier to look in a 5 KHz segment
I will do that myself, if I can find a hole.

On SSB, some mobiles may actually try to call CQ.... good luck.... however,
I have on occasion found a hole someplace in the 40 meter phone band that I
could hold onto for up to 20 minutes before a strong station in Chicago area
took over... so I can't suggest a mobile SSB window as holes in the phone
band are hard to find....

BUT consider that my mobile antennas are optimized for the lower end of each
band; therefore I would like to operate at the bottom part of the phone
band for better SWR.... 7290 is about 10:1 SWR on my mobile antenna, and
that translates to about 25-30 watts to a very short antenna
