[ILQSO] QSO Party operation

Mike,I love the idea of an Alaska QSO Party. In Illinois, and most other lower 48 state's QSO parties we use counties as multipliers. That would be rather limiting in AK since, as I remember, there are only 4. I would suggest using the nearest ZIP code as the multiplier. That would increase the number of multipliers, and would challenge participants to copy accurately. It hurts the hams in Anchorage and Fairbanks, but you could adjust it by having a bonus multiplier for every 6 of the same multiplier you work. I would also like to suggest this be done in the summer months when there are a lot of visiting mobile stations roaming the state. Hopefully I will be one of those roving mobiles some day. I've been to AK twice and am overdue to make it back again.

It has been years since I have operated the Illinois QSO party, 1984-1985 in fact. One year took secind place mobile and next year first place mobile. I could lay in bed at night and still hear CW ringing in my ears!!! My question is this: Where would I seek help in setting up and scoring a QSO PARTY for Alaska? Can you help lay out ground rules, or help with scoring? I am planning on operating the 2013 IL QSO party as portable from FULTON County next year. Just have to build my antennas for use during the contest. Will all be CW operation single operator. Looking forward to your help and input. I would like to model AK QSO after your QSO party. Thoughts?????KL7aiMike ZeglenAnchorrage, Alaska
